Take the Train to HuahinThe southern train line goes from Bangkok to Hat Yai and then extends into Malaysia. The railway goes right through Huahin. Each day, several trains past through Huahin on their way to points farther south. A ride on the State Railway of Thailand is a good option for your family to go to Huahin.
As Hua Hin is on the only north-south train line, it is easy to travel on the train to Huahin from Bangkok.
Train routes normally have more scenery than bus routes and although train travel is slower than buses, it is definitely more comfortable, especially on long journeys.
There are three classes of accommodations on the train to Huahin - first, second and third. First class sleeper compartments are air conditioned and for two people. They have a wash basin and there is even a cold water shower on the first class car. Food and drink can be ordered and brought to your compartment. This is a comfortable, relaxing way to travel long distances.
Second class accommodations on the train to Hua Hin have a variety of different set ups. Sleepers with bunk beds. In these, the arrangement is open-plan and the carriages are either air conditioned or with fan. Alternatively, there are seated carriages which can be either air conditioned or fan cooled. Both are comfortable ways to travel shorter distances during the day.
Huahin train station
Finally, third class carriages come with either padded or wooden benches and are surprising clean and comfortable for short journeys. I do not recommend going any further than Huahin in third class seating.
Tickets for third class seating can only be purchased on the day of travel. First and second class seats usually need to be purchased in advance. This is particularly essential during holiday periods when the trains are sure to be full. On the longer, more popular routes, advance tickets can be purchased 90 days before your date of travel. Tickets and can be exchanged or refunded up to three hours after the train leaves. The cost to exchange is 50 baht per ticket.
Flights to HuahinHuahin airport has been upgraded to meet the standards for an international airport. However, the only flights currently operating from Huahin are provided by SGA airlines. It is unknown if additional airlines will begin service to Huahin.
Hua hin does have its own airport, but flights are extremely limited. Current flight service is handled by SGA airlines with three daily flights to Huahin from Bangkok. Flight time is only 50 minutes in a 12 seat Cessna Grand Caravan. Therefore, the number of passengers that can fly to Hua Hin each week is only 252 persons. Due to the limited number of available seats, many tourists arrange transport via airport taxi in Bangkok.

Most taxi drivers know where the Southern Bus terminal is located. Just be aware that traffic into Thonburi, on the other side of the Chao Praya river, can be heavy at times. Especially in the morning and evening hours. Of course, there are few places in Bangkok without heavy traffic these days. Regular buses to Hua Hin will take about three hours to make the journey. It just depends on the flow of trafffic out of Bangkok.
First time visitors to Thailand will find it easier to book tickets for a bus to Hua Hin through the concierge at their hotel or through a travel agent in Bangkok. Although there may be a fee added to the cost of the ticket through your hotel or travel agent, the extra expense will be worth the time you save by not having to figure out which window to use to purchase tickets at the bus station.

Not all buses have on board toilets, so please have your children use the restroom before boarding the bus. I do not like to use a bus for transportation when I travel with my family. They are very confining and not a fun way to travel with small children. I recommend using a private taxi for transportation to Hua Hin.
